FAQ

The Tour

What is a self-guided bike tour?

A self-guided tour means that you will be cycling without a guide.

We provide you with all your itinerary details and maps (digital and for you to print, should you wish to) and how you pace your way through the day is entirely up to you. This gives you plenty of freedom and flexibility. You’ll be going at your pace!

What is included in my tour?

  • Accommodation in charming guesthouses and hotels.
  • A hearty breakfast each morning
  • Luggage transfers between accommodations
  • Detailed itinerary, GPX files and printable maps of your route
  • Tips on local attractions, history & evening meals
  • On call support before and during your tour

Depending on the tour, some may also include train transfers while on tour and also visits to local attractions.

What is not included?

  • Flights and transfers to and from the trail heads
  • Lunches & Dinners
  • Insurance
  • Bike rental (Selected on checkout)

What type of accommodation will I be staying in?

You will mostly be staying in traditional Bed & Breakfasts (B&B’s) / Guesthouses and small Hotels during your cycling trip. B&Bs / Guesthouses are often private lodging houses, where the friendly hosts welcome travellers into their homes. To ensure your comfort, most accommodation you will stay in has been personally checked by a member of the Rooster Bike Tours team. At your accommodation, you can expect a warm welcome, en-suite facilities (where available) and a tasty breakfast each morning (but usually no other meals).

Will I have to carry my own luggage while on tour?

No, on all our cycling tours your luggage will be transported to your next accommodation each day. It’s as easy as dropping you luggage to your accommodation reception in the morning and it will arrive at your next accommodation by 17:00.

How much luggage can I bring?

Every rider has one piece of luggage included with their transfer. The weight limit will vary by destination but is typically 15 kg (33 lbs) and 22 kg (45 lbs).

Weight limits are there to ensure the health and safety of our logistics team, so cannot be averaged across a group, i.e. one bag can’t be over the limit and another bag under.

What is a single supplement?

A single supplement is an additional charge for walkers booking single accommodation (a room for one person).

This is due to the fact that most accommodation providers price their rooms for double occupancy, meaning that they don’t discount the rooms even if they are only occupied by one person. Furthermore, accommodation providers have outlined that the cost of cleaning the room is the same regardless of how many people are in it, and also the potential cost of giving up a double occupancy (or more) sized room for just one person at a cheaper rate, when they could sell the room to more than one person at the normal rate, is too high.

Therefore, the total tour price for individuals who request a single room is “the price per person plus the single supplement”. This added supplement covers the extra costs associated with accommodating a single person in their own room.

Can I take a rest day?

Some of our longer itineraries include a rest day. If one of the itineraries you’re looking at does not include one, reach out to a member of our team and we can discuss options.

Can I extend my stay?

During booking, you will have the option of extending your stay in your final destination.

What is the difference between a "twin" and "double" room?

A ‘twin’ room is a room for two people with two separate beds. A ‘double’ room has just one large bed (for two people).

How do I get to the tour start and back home?

Although we don’t include travel to and from your tour start / finish location, we do include extensive information on how to get there.

This includes the most practical airports to fly into and how to get from them. If you need further assistance, we’re more than happy to help.

The Cycle

Will I be able to keep up with the cycle?

Don’t worry, for all our destinations, we’ve created a range of itineraries to suit all abilities. They are broken down into Gentle, Moderate & Challenging. You can find a more detailed explanation of our grading system here.

What will the terrain be like?

Some of our destinations may also include panniers. Check the booking engine for your tour to see if they are included. If there are any other accessories you would like for your rental, we are happy to accommodate. Reach out to us after booking to arrange.
